My sister lives in San Roque, and it’s been perfect for their family—lots of parks, walkable, and super chill neighbors. They’ve met other families just walking their dog around the block. I was actually checking the santa barbara business directory the other day looking for after-school stuff for my niece, and it’s surprisingly helpful for getting a feel for what’s nearby in each area. Worth poking around if you haven’t already.

I spent a few weeks house-sitting in the Mesa area last spring, and it was one of the quietest spots I’ve stayed in. You could hear the ocean at night, but still be five minutes from a grocery store. Definitely has a slower pace.
